Ondo PDP Raises Alarm Over Illegal Registration, Parallel Secretariat

Ondo State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday raised alarm over the circulation of fake membership cards and illegal membership registration exercise being carried out by some elements, who are not members of the party.

State PDP chairman, Ebenezer Alabi, raising the alarm in Akure, the state capital said the exercise was being carried out by some people who are parading themselves as chairmen and secretaries of the party across the 203 wards in the state. Alabi said that the exercise was carried out without the knowledge of the party, adding that the cards did not emanate from the party secretariat, averring that it was designed to cause clogs in the party's wheel of development.

He said: "The cards and registers distributed to all the wards in Ondo State neither emanated from the national secretariat nor state office located at No 68 Oyemekun road Akure, therefore, they are fake."

Specifically alleging the state governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko and other new entrants who joined the party lately to be the brains behind the illegal registration and distribution of fake membership cards, Alabi also alleged that a parallel secretariat of the party has been set up in the state capital against the ruling of an Abuja High Court, saying: "The ruling of an Abuja Federal High Court has said that the status quo should be maintained and admonished every member of the party to refrain from taking any step that could lead to a breach of peace and constituting a contempt of court."

"However, Dr. Mimiko and his supporters have chosen to dare the law by illegally setting up a parallel secretariat in the state capital.

"Ondo PDP leadership is coming to terms with the bare fact that Mimiko is joining the party to pursue a selfish agenda and personal vendetta."

Saying that the party has drawn the attention of the State Security Services, SSS, and Nigeria Police to the illegality being perpetrated by the fake executives, Alabi called on members to distance themselves from the illegality.
