13-Year-Old Footballer Dies On The Pitch During Under-14 Match

Jamie Skinner was playing for Edinburgh-based club Tynecastle FC Sunday morning when he collapsed.

It is understood that parents desperately fought to revive him with CPR before paramedics arrived, but he later died in hospital.

The cause of death is not known at this stage.

Tributes to the young player flooded in via Twitter.

A Hearts of Midlothian FC fanpage tweeted: "Devastated to hear that Tynecastle Under 14′s player Jamie Skinner tragically passed away on the pitch this morning doing what he loved."

And later added: "You should never go to a football game and not return home."

"Completely puts things into perspective. Just a young boy doing what he loves, so tragic."

Former Hibs player Fraser Ogilvie wrote: "Horrible to hear that a 14-year-old boy goes out to play footy n doesn't come home thoughts go out to everyone involved at Tynecastle and the family of the wee lad can't imagine how hard this morning was!"

Stoke City and Scotland international, Charlie Adam wrote: "Thoughts go out to the family of Jamie Skinner who sadly died playing football today @ the age of 14. He was playing for hearts v Dundee.RIP"

Tynecastle FC statement said: "A tragic event happened at Saughton Astro on Sunday 22 December 2013, a young boy playing for the Under 14s, Jamie Skinner, playing the game he loved, lost his life on the pitch."

"In an innocuous event during the game Jamie collapsed.."

"Although Jamie was new to our Tynecastle family.., he was a prospect that undoubtedly would have had a bright future in the game."

"No words can fully express our grief and dismay at seeing this happen, we can only pass on all our thoughts and prayers to friends and family..."

"As a mark of respect all Tynecastle teams will hold a minute silence before their next game."
