Nigeria @53: Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!

Wow! Is Nigeria actually 53? Hmmm...

The grey-headed Nigeria, old but not strong, not comforting, with so many children killing each other in the name of religion, politics and wealth. A grand-father whose grand-children would wish they were adopted by U.S or wish even their grand-uncle, Ghana was their grand-father.

They say Nigeria is BETTER at 53, we hope so but WE CAN'T FEEL IT! Well, we'd keep praying and doing our best.

Nigeria is close to her grave; we thought old age is synonymous to wisdom...well, guess we thought wrong.

Nigeria at 53, can't provide home for the homeless, can't feed her children, can't provide hope...

Nigeria is lost! She's groaning!! She's drowning in her own river. Oh, Nigeria. She really needs prayers.

I can't pretend and sit here saying all is well with Nigeria. Nigeria isn't happy with it's care-taker, Mr. President. ASUU is on strike, well he says he doesn't care kinda. ASUP also on strike and it's Nigeria's Independence Day Celebration! What are we even celebrating? The darkness? Her stupid politics? The rate of unemployment? The killings? The high rate of crime? God help Nigeria!

I thought we were free...INDEPENDENT is the word- we have crude oil and I wonder if it's a curse or a blessing. Sorry, I'm confused... Do we actually have crude oil or the care-takers have taken over our inheritance and forced slavery on us.

Yeah, the unintelligent people that managed to become "teachers" (please read between the lines) are the ones who get the money from crude oil while they pretend to help graduates by providing those who want to go into FARMING 50, 000 naira ONLY! How come we Nigeria doesn't have a refinery? How come Ghana has constant electricity Nigeria doesn't?

Well, let's focus on the good things and smile the pain away. We are used to it- "suffering and smiling," Fela said so. Diverse in language, still together. We would survive...

GOOD PEOPLE, GREAT NATION!

Happy Independence Day to the GOOD PEOPLE of Nigeria!
