National Conference: Ekiti Assembly Deputy Speaker Questions Jonathan’s Sincerity

National Conference: Ekiti assembly deputy Speaker questions Jonathan’s sincerity

The Deputy Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Orisalade Adetunji Taiwo has joined the cacophony of Eminent Nigerians questioning the sincerity and genuineness of the aims and objectives of the National Conference being proposed by President Goodluck Jonathan to dialogue with the Nigerian People.

In a statement made available to Newsmen in Ado-Ekiti by his Special Assistant on Media Mr Taiwo Oluwaleye, the Lawmaker representing Ido/Osi Constituency II averred that the timing of the Conference is wrong thereby making its sincerity suspicious. He queried why President Goodluck Jonathan couldn’t set up such Committee ever since 2010 when he became Nigerian Leader only to start doing so now when 2015 General Elections have started gathering momentum.

“I wish to say without being immodest and
unpatriotic that it is apparent that the motive of the Conference is to placate aggrieved Politicians and ethnic groups presently not benefitting from the National cake. It looks like a calculated plot to settle scores with aggrieved Political figures in PDP in order to make 2015 polls an easy ride for the incumbent President. My questions are why is it the time that the 2015 general elections has started gathering momentum that President Jonathan thinks of National Conference or dialogue? Why didn’t he set up such a committee immediately he got the insignia of power?” He queried.

Chief Orisalade who lamented on the essence of the Conference said there was no provision in the Nation’s 1999 Constitution ( as Amended) for such Conference to hold. The Lawmaker however advised the President to forget any jamboree exercise in the name of National Conference that will amount to wastage of National resources but rather focus on good Governance.

He hoped that this would not be a ploy to postpone the 2015 General Elections under the guise of unfinished discussions at the National Conference.
