As political manoeuvres towards the 2015 elections reach high levels, the Governor of Kaduna State, Mukhtar Ramalan Yero today sacked his commissioners.
In a statement announcing dissolution of the State Executive Council, the spokesperson to the Governor, Mallam Ahmed Maiyaki, said Governor Yero thanked the commissioners for their valuable contributions to the state and wished them success in their future endeavors.
The commissioners were directed to handover the affairs of their respective ministries to their permanent secretaries within two days.
This dissolution means that Governor Yero and his political godfather, Vice-President Namadi Sambo, have effectively rid themselves of a cabinet that was considered to be pro-Patrick Yakowa, the former governor who died in a helicopter crash last December. It was his death that paved the way for Mr. Yero, who was deputy governor, to take over.
The dismissed commissioners will now most likely be replaced by party hacks that are considered to be very loyal to the political ambitions of Mr. Sambo and Mr. Yero. Only a few days ago, both men had commenced a clampdown on a critical radio station, Liberty Radio, which has become a strong voice in the politics of the state.
