Rihanna Wins T-shirt Court Case Against Topshop

Fashion news now, ...and you can no longer wear Rihanna's face on your body by order of the LAW.

That's the ruling from a judge presiding over the legal battle between the pop star and Topshop, which first flared into action when the high street chain produced a T-shirt bearing Ri-Ri's face.

The vest top depicted the Diamonds singer wearing her hair in curls and a whitewashed denim dungaree top with a slick of red lipstick, which her lawyers claimed was a "very similar" image to one used on the CD inlay for her Talk That Talk album.

They said this would lead a "substantial number of people" to think the T-shirt had been "approved or somehow connected" with Rihanna, despite the singer never rubber-stamping the design.

Topshop disputed the claims, but Mr Justice Birss of the High Court came down on the singer's side, noting: "A substantial number of purchasers are likely to [have been] deceived into buying [the] T-shirt because of a false belief that it has been authorised by Rihanna."

A legal team for the fashion brand pointed out that the forthcoming court case had not deterred Rihanna's entourage for asking for cheeky freebies for the Barbadian beauty.

"Rihanna's own shopping habits provide compelling evidence of Topshop's reputation in fashion wear," pointed out Geoffrey Hobbs QC. "[There are] ten recent occasions on which her representatives have contacted Topshop asking for products for her to wear - we note that six of these requests post-date this dispute."

Brilliant. Although financial deets of the court victory have not yet been made public, I think Ri-Ri's in line for a large payout.
