Man Jailed For Stealing Handset And N1500

An Ilorin Magistrate Court on Monday sentenced one Olaitan Adebayo to twelve month imprisonment for stealing handset and N1500. The convict, was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft contrary to Sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code Law.

According to the Charge Sheet, the convict trespass into the shop of one Kolapo Musilimat and stole her bag containing the said items.

The charge sheet said that the convict was sighted by the owner and shouted for help which led to the arrest of the accused. The convict however pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Kareem Jimoh told the court that the accused have been convicted sometimes in Jan 2011 for the offence of stealing. He applied for the summary trial of the accused since he pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate, Mr. Nurudeen Adeyanju, In his judgement sentenced the accused to twelve months imprisonment without option of fine.
