Gunmen Kill Hotel Owner, Wife, Set 2 Others Ablaze In Lagos

Unknown gunmen in the early hours of Sunday in Lagos attacked the 04 Hotel in Ajah, killing the owner, identified as Olanrewaju Subair, his wife and setting two others ablaze.

Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Rasaq Fadipe, who confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos said the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. He said the raging fire from the persons set ablaze also escalated and burnt a large section of the hotel.

Mr. Fadipe said the situation prompted the police, who later arrived at the scene, to invite the Fire Service Department.

"At about 2 a.m on Sunday we got a call from the police, inviting us to respond to a fire incident at 04 Hotel in Ajah."
"Some unknown gunmen had stormed the hotel and had shot dead the owner, his wife and set the two other male occupants ablaze."
"The fire from the burning persons was so much that it spread to some rooms in the hotel and destroyed so many things."
"But my men arrived at the scene quickly enough to stop the fire from spreading to the other parts of the hotel, thereby preventing further damage."

"It was indeed an unfortunate incident," he said.

Mr. Fadipe added that two other persons sustained serious gunshot injuries in the attack and they had been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

On what was the mission of the gunmen and whether or not they had been arrested, Fadipe said he did not have the details. He however said the police were already investigating the incident and at the appropriate time would make public details of the attack.
