Actress Nkiruka Silvanus was recently appointed the director general of the Imo State Film Academy (IFACA) by the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha. As part of her duties, she will launch the Imo Film Academy next Friday at the Imo College of Advanced Professional Studies (ICAPS) complex. Many stakeholders in the movie industry and top government functionaries are expected to grace the occasion.
According to Nkeiru, "The Imo Film Academy is an initiative of His Excellency, Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha, a man of vision, a leader per excellence. The Imo Film Academy became very necessary and important because of his (Okorocha's) passion and love for talent and the entertainment industry with the hope that it will improve, harness and create a platform to empower the youths just like he has been doing in other sectors.
"The entertainment industry needs more lofty ideas and the Imo Film Academy will create an enabling environment for filmmaking, training, educating and equipping men for better acting. We will prepare them to be leaders for the industry, and more importantly, it will all culminate in creative employment opportunities for the people in Imo State and Nigeria."
Nikiru, before her appointment, was formerly an aide to the governor on Lagos Affairs and later Public Affairs.
The academy is expected to train its students in photography, acting, cinematography, directing, voice-over voice training, script writing, costume make-up, set/prop, lightning, continuity screenplay, video editing, etc.
