Man's Impotence Results In Dissolution Of 4-Year-Old Marriage

A Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan on Wednesday dissolved the four-year-old marriage between one Lateef Amzat and his wife, Romoke, over the former’s impotence.

The Presiding President of the court, Chief Henric Agbaje, said that he had no option than to dissolve the marriage because there was no longer love between the duo.

Agbaje said that the evidence before the court showed that the couple were no longer interested in the marriage.

The judge ruled: "The court gave the couple two weeks of grace to resolve their differences amicably but they did not reach any accord."

"Therefore, in the interest of peace and order, I pronounce the marriage dissolved since both parties are willing to part ways."

"But let me quickly counsel you, Romoke; it is only God who can provide children and good health."

"God can still do the impossible; you cannot guarantee that you will find happiness wherever you go next."

"However, if separation is the only thing that will ensure peace between both of you, then let it be so."

Romoke had earlier told the court to dissolve her marriage to Amzat due to his impotence.

The complainant told the court that Amzathad not been able to impregnate her, adding that efforts to seek medical cure had failed.

She accused Amzat of failing to heed medical instructions, especially on the usage of drugs.

Amzat, however, claimed that his impotence could be due to "spiritual attack" which required divine intervention.
