Army Kills 37 Boko Haram Members In Raid

The army said it had killed 37 suspected members of the outlawed Boko Haram sect following a raid in a terrorist camp in a village in Borno.

In a statement late on Tuesday, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations (DDAPR), Captain Aliyu Ibrahim Danja said other suspects fled with gunshots following an onslaught in the camp at Alagarno village.

The troops also recovered several arms and ammunition and destroyed three vehicles allegedly belonging to the terrorists.

"Based on available intelligence, troops of the 7 Division, Nigerian Army launched an attack on terrorists camp in Alagarno, the operation which commenced on Monday 21st October, 2013 involved a coordinated ground and air assault by our troops in conjunction with 79 Composite Group, Nigerian Air force Maiduguri destroy the terrorist’s camp. A total of 37 terrorists were killed in the fire fight while several others fled with gunshot wounds," Danja stated.

Villagers scurried for safety during the air and ground operation that lasted about three hours.

There were no civilian casualties. The raids followed alleged Boko Haram members terrorizing villagers in Borno State. It was earlier reported that terrorists killed 10 villagers in Kawuri village.
