Barcelona has appointed Argentine Tata Martino as new coach. Gerardo Daniel Martino, nicknamed Tata, has held talks with Barcelona over the past few days following the departure of Tito Vilanova due to illness.
The 50-year-old, who reportedly comes to the Nou Camp on the recommendation of Lionel Messi, has agreed a three-year deal with Barcelona president Sandro Rosell.The former Newell's Old Boys coach brings Elvio Paolorroso and Jorge Pautasso with him to the Nou Camp, as assistant coach and trainer, respectively. Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino holds the record for most appearances for Newell's Old Boys (505) and was voted the greatest player in Newell’s history by fans. This appears to be a bold and exciting choice from Barcelona and, Martino is known as a disciple of Marcelo Bielsa.
